Save Our Mountains!

Vulcan Materials Company has taken steps to extend their open face mining pit from its current location in Fish Canyon, westward to the top of Van Tassel Ridge, the nearby mountain that faces south and is visible from much of the San Gabriel Valley.

Alert: Joint Azusa-Duarte City Council Meeting - Tuesday, January 29, 2008!

Not content with destroying the beautiful entrance to the canyon where Fish Canyon Falls are located, the mining company now is moving to obliterate another 80 acres—and expand mining onto a mountain which forms part of the of the San Gabriel front range. Since the early 1990s they have closed off public access to Fish Canyon, and the beautiful waterfalls that lie two miles up the valley. More on the Falls/Trail. To date, Vulcan's half-hearted attempts at reclamation of completed mining areas do not inspire confidence in their ability or desire to do a proper job.

Proposed Vulcan Materials 80 acre mining expansion

The mining operation produces dangerous silica dust, which poses serious health and safety concerns. The expansion of mining operations will dramatically degrade our view of the mountains with the potential devaluation of real estate values.
